What is Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?

OCD is a condition where your anxiety can be linked to specific thoughts or actions. This means that you do certain things such as:

  • You wash yourself repeatedly for fear of germs or contamination
  • You perform time-consuming rituals such as ordering, arranging and checking
  • You think in fixed strings of words or sentences to calm yourself

OCD can often be treated effectively with medication and cognitive behavioural therapy.
