If you are, or have been at some point, then read on. Whether you're depressed for the first time or suffer from recurring bouts of the illness, the following will help.

The section entitled "About depression" sets out some extremely important facts about the illness. However, it's one thing to read about depression, quite another to have it.

Putting ourselves in your shoes

On this website we try to put ourselves in your shoes - to describe, understand and sense depression as you perceive it.

We are well aware that you know best just how the illness can make you feel and what social consequences it can have.

Nevertheless, you should be aware of the close links between:

  • Thoughts
  • Feelings
  • Actions

All three play a major role in your life before, during and after a period of depression.

Treatment is available

Depression is an illness - it's not a matter of pulling yourself together and there's nothing to be ashamed of.

Our most important message is that:

  • Depression can and should be treated
  • You will return to normal once your depression passes
